Dust Suppression Western Australia

Reduce respirable dust and minimise usage at your Western Australian site

What are dust suppression systems?

There are two ways to control fugitive dust with water sprays during mining and materials handling processes.

You can ‘nip it in the bud’ with a low pressure (< 10 bar) dust prevention system that uses large volumes of water at close range to contain the errant dust, usually close to the source such as the beginning of the transfer point. Being low pressure, the droplets are much coarser, so this is more accurately described as a wetting system rather than a misting system.

And/or you can utilise a dust suppression misting system which conversely uses lower volumes of water at high pressure (> 50 bar) to add a fine atomised mist to the air and thus capture and subdue dust particles that are already airborne. Suppression systems are ideal in instances where it is not practical to pre-wet material or where there are challenges with water availability, pooling of water, and blockages in the downstream materials handling process caused by hang-up of material.

Dust suppression and dust prevention systems are not exclusive; many operations have both systems configured to effectively control dust.

No one knows more about dust suppression systems in Western Australia.

With over 100 fully customised and purpose-built dust suppression systems in use globally, Dust-A-Side is an acknowledged leader in this field.

Our systems are triggered by remote control sensors and programmable logic controllers with fully automated, self-cleaning water filtration systems.

The pump modules are constructed from industrial grade components and are UL and CE rated for utmost performance and reliability.

Due to the harsh operating environment of heavy industry, especially in Western Australia, Dust-A-Side Australia’s systems are fully enclosed, air conditioned and come complete with dust-proof components.

To reduce the use of water and enhance the system’s performance, binder products such as AquaTarp and HydroTac, and surfactants like Hydrowet can be incorporated.

Dust suppression is most effective when the dust particles and atomised water droplets are of equivalent size, so they will combine & fall to the ground, assisted by gravity. If the water droplets are too large, they will displace too much air, forcing the dust particles to flow around them.

Hydrowet helps to break the surface tension of water particles, leading to smaller water droplets (between 5 and 10 microns) that attract dust particles to them, via agglomeration. This process is particularly effective when managing hydrophobic materials such as fine ores.

Benefits of using high pressure dust suppression systems

Dust-A-Side Australia has helped numerous clients in Western Australia from a range of different industries such as mining and construction with their dust control problems.

Quantified and qualified benefits include:

  • Reduction of respirable dust by 80%+. Respirable dust (typically less than 10 microns), is the dust that can cause everything from irritation and vision impairment to major health risks.
  • Reduce moisture content in material by up to 90%,
  • Reduction of visible dust
  • Reduce over watering which leads to conveyor slippage and a reduction in safe work areas
  • Reduction in chute blockages
  • Improvement of housekeeping standards

Don’t just take our word for it
